Amy has a passion for helping individuals find freedom from active addiction and transform their lives for the better. Her education and professional experience span over 25 years including fields in K-12 education, community outreach, health and wellness, spiritual leadership, and conscious recovery coaching. She is a mother of four who has pioneered, led and participated in a wide array of missions involving conscious parenting and family crisis mentorship.

Emerging and healing from a family of generational addiction, trauma and mental health challenges has led her to a deep understanding and compassion of what recovery entails, and she now dedicates herself to supporting people on their path of healing. Amy has been a proponent of TJ’s work since being introduced in 2015 when Conscious Being was published and has witnessed the unfolding of the transformational experience contained within Conscious Recovery.

Amy’s sincerity and commitment are easily felt as she shares with you how to take your client’s personal recovery to the next level in their journey of self-discovery, healing and personal growth. Jeremy is a founder & CEO of Rehab Road Trips. Jeremy specializes in media, marketing, and clinical work, and started his professional journey as a certified addictions counselor. Mel Pohl, MD, DFASAM is the Chief Medical Officer of The Pointe Malibu Recovery Center.  He was formerly the Chief Medical Officer of the Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC).

He is a Family Practitioner, certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Mel is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Mell McCracken is the Executive Director of No Matter What Recovery, serving as the leader of the clinical treatment program and overseeing our sexualized drug use curriculum. 

Mell is a fierce advocate for healing and transformation through substance abuse counseling, sex addiction therapy, and treatment program development. They have nearly a decade of experience and extensive expertise in empowering individuals to overcome their struggles with addiction and navigate the complexities of chemsex in the rainbow community. 

Mell is nationally and internationally recognized as an LGBT+ educator, co-author, and treatment provider. They also serve as faculty member at the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Specialists. They are committed to uplifting voices and breaking stigmas, one conversation at a time, and have spent their career fighting for inclusivity and empowerment through chemsex education and LGBT+ activism. 

They are originally from Ojai, California and in their free time enjoy exploring their creative side through painting, writing, pottery, and making music. 

With over 18 years of experience, Melissa Stevenson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist known for a deeply integrative approach that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Her work spans both short-term crisis support and long-term therapeutic transformation, helping individuals and couples navigate real-life challenges, deep emotional wounds, and everything in between.

Her unique lens focuses less on “why” we suffer and more on “what” and “how” to move forward. She incorporates somatic awareness into her work, recognizing that the nervous system often holds onto pain long after the mind thinks it’s resolved. Her goal is to not only relieve immediate suffering but also guide clients toward lasting change.

Professionally, she currently owns a group private practice where they work with adult individuals, couples and families. She has held multiple leadership roles in the past, including Executive Director of BrightQuest San Diego and Director roles for Foundations San Francisco and Foundations San Diego. She is also a dedicated clinical supervisor and serves on the Mental Health Advisory Council for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Currently, she is in the process of becoming a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.

Cheree Ashley is a certified intervention professional and a certified alcohol and drug counselor with over a decade of experience facilitating hundreds of interventions across the country. Her work spans high acuity and complex cases, serving individuals from all walks of life, from those experiencing homelessness to CEOs of multi family office companies, reinforcing her belief that addiction does not discriminate.

Her work is deeply rooted in her own journey of recovery. Fourteen years ago, her path to healing began with incarceration. Today, she is the sole founder and CEO of multiple recovery and mental health programs that have been operating successfully for over 11 years, providing care across all levels, from one of California’s first detox only programs to residential treatment, intensive outpatient services, and primary mental health care.

As a founder and leader, Cheree oversees strong multidisciplinary teams across all programs, including clinicians, medical providers, psychiatrists, and behavioral health technicians. Her leadership is grounded in lived experience, accountability, and a deep commitment to ethical, compassionate care.

She is especially passionate about working with families, helping them understand addiction, mental health, and the importance of healthy boundaries so their loved ones can receive the care they need and deserve. A strong advocate for prevention through education, Cheree has presented to more than 30,000 students across California’s Central Coast, providing free drug education to youth and communities.

In addition to her work in recovery, Cheree is the founder of a clean, vegan skincare brand rooted in self care and wellness. A portion of proceeds supports individuals struggling with substance use and mental health who lack access to resources. Her mission is to help people become aware of how they are feeling and learn how to care for themselves earlier, before crisis or residential treatment becomes necessary.

Cheree is also a wife and the proud mother of three beautiful children. Outside of her professional work, she can often be found cheering from the sidelines at her children’s sporting events or spending quiet time at home with her mini farm animals, grounding moments that reflect the balance, presence, and purpose she brings into every aspect of her life.

Panelists:

Dr. Angela Marie Chanter, PsyD, serves as Chief Clinical Officer of Sierra Health and Wellness and has been a licensed psychologist for over two decades.

She is distinguished for her visionary leadership and compassionate stewardship across a network of clinical programs. At Sierra, she drives clinical excellence, integrating trauma informed care and family systems approaches while mentoring future clinicians.

Prior to joining Sierra in 2020, she served as Director of Recovery Happens Counseling and concurrently maintained a private practice specializing in family therapy, custody evaluations, trauma, advocacy for homelessness, equine-assisted therapy, and addiction recovery. In addition, Dr. Chanter collaborated with Placer County law enforcement leadership to develop and implement prevention initiatives targeting at-risk youth.

Guided by a deep reverence for the legacy of her late husband, Jon Daily—founder of Recovery Happens—she continues her work as a servant leader.

Dr. Patrick Lockwood grew up in a small southern Missouri town, enculturated with classical southern and Midwestern values like honesty, integrity, and the “neighborly” way of relating to people. He completed his B.A. in psychology at the University of Missouri, then moved to L.A. to earn his Doctorate of Psychology at TCSPP.

Dr. Lockwood has worked for non-profits, treatment centers, and has been a part of a number of startups over the past ten years. His background in community interventions began before he even graduated from the University of Missouri where he successfully co-authored a grant creating a virtual intervention to help parents on campus become more connected and develop a support community while working at ParentLink, a division of the university’s College of Education.

Dr, Lockwood has trained with experts in the field of addiction treatment, and has worked at every level of the mental health and addiction treatment industry. Notably, he is currently an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University teaching psychology and psychotherapy courses. He also has a podcast on YouTube about topics related to mental health, wellness, psychology, and neuroscience called “The Psychology Checkup.” Finally, Dr. Lockwood is the author of “The Fear Problem,” a book integrating the neuroscience and evolutionary psychology of our fear process to explain why we get triggered by politics and other “hot topics.”

Janae Borrego is a Queer, Chicane, gender-fluid clinician and Southern California native. She is a multistate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, licensed in California, Florida, Vermont, and Idaho.

Janae is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-I)Certified Integrative Mental Health ProfessionalCertified Mindfulness-Informed Provider, and Certified EMDR Therapist. She brings over 15 years of experience in the mental health field across a wide range of settings and has been a practicing therapist for more than 13 years.

She is the founder of JB Psychotherapy, Coaching, and Consulting, where she provides psychotherapy, empowerment coaching, and mental performance coaching to diverse individuals. Her work supports healing, resilience building, identity development, and personal and professional growth through comprehensive, integrative, and holistic approaches. Janae is also deeply committed to education and advocacy and regularly facilitates speaking engagements and training events focused on culturally affirming and trauma-informed care.

In addition, Janae serves as the Chief Clinical Officer at Rainbow Hill Recovery, an outpatient treatment center dedicated to serving LGBTQIA+ individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. In this role, she leads the clinical vision, quality, and integrity of the program, ensuring services are designed to meet the unique needs of LGBTQ+ clients. She works to ensure all care is clinically excellent, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, identity-affirming.

Janae is also a proud committee member of LGBTQ+ AAMHP, an organization that supports LGBTQ+ mental health professionals and allies through networking, education, and advocacy to strengthen care for LGBTQ+ individuals across mental health spaces.

Dr. Olivia Ratcliff-Totty (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Psychological Associate and serves as the primary therapist at Element Q Healing Center, working towards her licensure to become a Clinical Psychologist. She earned her BA in Psychology from Ohio University and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University (CSPP). Dr. Totty’s clinical background is varied and intentional, with experience providing mental health and substance use treatment at Monima Wellness Center, state and federal prisons, and a crisis center. Her passion for mentorship and education is reflected in her role as an Adjunct Professor for a Clinical Psychology doctoral program. Dr. Totty’s lifelong goal is to always support and give back to underserved communities. Her research and clinical interests focus on personality disorders, the LGBTQ+ community, multiculturalism, and carceral systems. Dr. Totty’s approach to clinical work is trauma-informed and built on a foundation of warmth, authenticity, and humor.  

In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her English Bulldog.

Molly Maddocks began working in the behavioral health field almost nine years ago, where she started working with female-identifying clients struggling with substance use. She then started working with dual-diagnosis and primary mental health clients, where her passion for helping those with mental health symptoms and unresolved trauma grew, with a steadfast passion for providing access to care and advocating for those in need. Her experience reaches RTC, PHP, and IOP levels of care-affirming environments for all. With a background in communication and ensuring all voices are heard, Molly focuses on uplifting those voices, challenging barriers, and fostering a culture of belonging. She spends most of her free time learning, supporting, and volunteering alongside other organizations to help uplift and support those to inspire a message and culture of resiliency and self-empowerment. Molly graduated with a departmental scholarship from Point Loma Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts in Managerial and Organizational Communication. 

Jen Carvalho is the Chief Operating Officer of Harlow Gardens and brings over two decades of healthcare leadership experience and a deep personal commitment to recovery. As a woman in long-term recovery herself, she brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her leadership roles. Throughout her distinguished career, Carvalho has held several executive positions in behavioral healthcare, including President and Chief Operating Officer of Your Behavioral Health, Division President of Discovery Behavioral Health, and Market CEO for Acadia Healthcare. Her leadership style focuses on inspiring teams, creating opportunities for professional development and organizational improvement while championing client-centered care. Access to care has long been a rallying point for Jen and to that end, she has served on a variety of boards, including CCAPP and NAATP and worked at a legislative level to promote parity in behavioral health. She recently worked with the Kennedy Forum Workforce Development committee to create solutions for advancement of our care teams. Known for unwavering dedication to helping clients and staff reach their full potential, Carvalho combines strategic business acumen with a passionate commitment to transforming lives. Her leadership guides performance improvement and continued expansion of evidence-based treatment services.  Jen balances her leadership with personal passions, that include her husband and son, and her love of adventure running.

Christina Simos is a leader, connector, and a disruptor to the status quo. As a student at Arizona State University in the 90’s, Christina founded Students Against Discrimination (S.A.D.). This group held the largest social justice rally on ASU’s campus and was responsible for creating social justice policies and changes that still stand today. She graduated with a BA in Journalism and was recognized by her alma mater and various organizations including the Lambda League for her work.

In June of 2005, Christina entered the Friendly House as a resident. There she was mentored by Friendly House’s former Executive Director Peggy Albrecht and quickly immersed herself in the recovery world. “Peggy mentored me, loved me and helped me be the woman I am today. I never left this house because it saved my life.” Over the last 17 years Christina has been the alumni coordinator, alumni president, secretary of their women’s AA meeting, helped produce various Grateful Hearts fundraisers and has remained a fixture in the recovery community. She currently is a Board of Directors member of the West Hollywood Recovery Center, LGBTQ+ Association of Mental Health Professionals, the National Association of Treatment Providers Board of Directors and is on the NAATP DEIB committee. Christina is also known for her singing and her love of dodgeball.

In 2013 Christina started working in treatment as a detox technician. Over the last decade she has held a variety of jobs, learning every aspect of the treatment industry from HR/compliance, management, admissions, marketing/business development to operations. As Director of Operations, one of her proudest achievements was helping a well-functioning recovery environment become a first-class treatment center through the creation of policies, acquiring licensures and ASAM certification, and ensuring that the staff was as inclusive and diverse as the population served.

In April of 2021, Christina returned home to the Friendly House to take on the role as Admissions and Business Development Manager. In January of 2022, she became the 4th Executive Director of the Friendly house and is one of the few women of culture to hold an Executive level position in this industry.

Cameron is the Vice President of Operations at Sierra Health and Wellness. He is a compassionate and strategic healthcare executive with a proven record of guiding multi-state behavioral health organizations through meaningful growth, operational excellence, and transformational change. With experience spanning both educational and healthcare administration, he brings a strong blend of evidence-based strategy, regulatory expertise, and people-centered leadership that strengthens teams and improves patient outcomes.

Cameron has served in executive roles within some of the nation’s largest behavioral health systems and also partners with organizations through his consulting firm to enhance operations, support leaders, and drive sustainable, mission-aligned success. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Healthcare Administration, further reflecting his commitment to shaping the future of behavioral health care.
